Despite Derbyshire Constabulary issuing numerous e-scooter warnings on the run-up to Christmas, officers have been disappointed to see people still riding them on public roads and pavements in South Derbyshire this year.
Officers out and about on patrol today, (Thursday 15 January), noted a teenager using an e-scooter in a public place.
The e-scooter, which police were told was a Christmas present, was promptly seized.
As officers were dealing with the matter, the young person's family arrived at the scene. Unfortunately, instead of having a calm conversation, abuse was directed at police, who were simply doing their job in keeping our community safe.
Officers remained professional, calm and completely unimpressed.
Let's be clear: e-scooters like this one are illegal on public roads and footpaths.
They can also be very dangerous to inexperienced young riders, as well as to pedestrians, with hospitals seeing many injuries linked to e-scooter use - such as broken bones and head injuries.
What may have looked like a fun gift, can very quickly turn into a serious trip to the accident and emergency department at hospital.
Please remember, riding an e-scooter in public is illegal. They are not a toy - even if they were gifted to you under the Christmas tree.
